Chaos and Other Fun

April has been exciting! I’ve been doing a lot of writing. I traveled to a bookstore, and, hmm, what else, ah, Pack came out! I want to thank you all for all your support. Pack has been in the top 100 for Teen and Young Adult LGBTQ+ Fiction on Amazon since it came out on April 14th.

There are some big name book in that category, so bopping around the top 100 is fantastic! I’ve even, as of this post, picked up 14 ratings and 1 review. If you’ve read the book and would be willing to give it a review, that would warm my heart! Help convince me to try to get Battlefield out sooner than August 17th.

Last month, Battlefield was submitted to my critique group. They gave me some great ideas to make the book better. I’ll be reading through the book and making changes next week and hopefully getting the manuscript to my editor the following week.

My cats seem to enjoy my sitting on the computer getting these books written and cleaned up.

I’ve joined a website that is doing a HUGE giveaway.

Jae – a big author in the industry, has gathered 36 authors who are part of this giveaway. That is a LOT of opportunity to win. Just click here, and you enter to win!

If you’re all caught up with the Jade Stone Chronicles, why not check out one of these fantastic reads?

Wild Spirit – Victoria Wren

Struck down with a mystery illness, sixteen-year-old Win Adler’s life in Boston is shattered. Once a high achieving student, Win’s illness forces her to become withdrawn, losing many friends along the way. When doctors can’t find a cure, her father’s last hope of recovery is to take her home to Hickory House, her mother’s ancestral home in the woods in the old colonial town of Cedar Wood. A fresh start in a new town, a new school where no one knows her past, plus a cute neighbor across the woods…life should get better, right? Living with her Grandpa and older sister in a quaint town should be ideal, but Win soon discovers she lives at the heart of an old town ghost story, a tale of witchcraft and tragedy. And Win learns that her family is unusual, and have some rather interesting secrets.
Someone is watching the house, a mysterious hunter, someone who knows her family’s dark secrets, and as Win starts to change in more ways than one, she must uncover the truth about this man, and what he wants from her. She is getting stronger and faster as she learns more about her family’s strange curse. All Win wants to do is settle into her new life, but on the night of Luke Fraser’s bonfire, the party quickly gets out of control, and Win must use her new talents to help her friends and get them to safety. She must unearth the secrets of her past to survive the fight of her life before she runs out of time.

Wolf Summoned – Michelle Areaux

It only took one moment to change my life forever.

After being shipped off to spend my entire summer with my great aunt, I am finally returning to my home in small-town, Nicholasville. I’ve missed my best friend, Maddox, like crazy and have dreamed of having my normal life back. Only, my return wasn’t as welcome as I had expected—or normal.

Fate seems to have a strange sense of humor. Not only am I dealing with becoming a shifter, but ow, a beautiful, dark-haired boy with almost supernatural-like qualities is drawing me in against my own will and causing me to question everything I’ve ever known.

Cole.

No matter how hard we try to fight it, there is this uncanny connection between us. I fear he may learn my secret that not only am I a shifter, but that I’m caught in the middle of an ages-old war between shifters and hunters.
Someone wants me dead, and the closer I get to saving my own kind, the more destruction seems to spark around me. Maddox senses it, too, and wants me to chose between Cole and my loyalty with my pack.

How can I be forced to choose between my best friend and boyfriend? How can I solve the destruction of shifters?

Wyldling Snare – A.R. Grimes

He’s determined to reconcile his duty with his dreams. But will a secret destiny ensnare him first?

Apprentice knight Enoch Northward isn’t ready to lead. But when he returns home to find his mentor dead and the heir-apparent missing, he knows he must rise to the challenge.

But the horrifying truth of his guardian’s death and disappearance of his friends leaves the grieving knight with no time to mourn. In search of answers, he ventures into the forbidden forest. There he discovers a portal leading to another world – and a girl who shares his faith and dreams.

The realm hangs in the balance as a mysterious enemy schemes to destroy it, but not all peril comes from the outside. Enoch himself harbors a secret that could destroy all he loves…

If you enjoy portal fantasy and adventure, then you’ll love Wyldling Snare, the first installment of the Wyldling Dream series – a coming of age story with underlying themes of faith, friendship, and found family.

On A Wing

It takes a dragon to find a dragon. Fellow author, A.R. Grimes and I, climbed onto the back of our trusted green dragon and flew far east and north in Menomonie, Wisconsin to visit Dragon Tale Book, a new bookstore near UW-Stout.

On the way up, hunger overtook us, and we stopped at a Monday’s Café and Deli where waitress Kamryn assured our trip was fun, beautiful, as well as delicious!

Kamryn

Chief Dragon-rider Ann Vogl met us as the bookstore and showed us around a main room with a large dragon tail overseeing the books. The store is welcoming. It had a steady stream of people coming in, including several regulars. The store has more than books, it displays local art, hosts book clubs, as well as other events. It’s a gem that I heard at least one family said was a reason they’d select UW-Stout as their college of choice!

After setting up, A.R. Grimes and I even found a few hidden notes around the bookstore, a scavenger hunt they’ve provided for even more fun!

This bookstore is absolutely a place you should visit!!

In personal news, Pack topped the Amazon Teen & Young Adult LGBTQ+ Fiction New Release for three days. I was over the moon. It’s still in the top three five days later! I thank you all for making my book so successful!

There are, as of writing the newsletter, nine ratings. I’m so excited to see the first few reviews come in! I’m wondering what y’all have to say about my book!

I’m working on Book 6, Battlefield. It’s scheduled to come out in August, but if I can, I will get it out early. I just got the cover in, and I’ll show you now what the artists created. It’s fantastic!

If you’ve read books 1 – 5, and need a recommendation, I have a few (as always). Here you go!

Here is a list of free books, if you’ll sign up for a newsletter: https://books.bookfunnel.com/fantasyheroines/7uc35okd31

Countdown!

Hi everyone! Pack comes out in two days. Are you as excited as I am? I hope you are. If you haven’t caught up with the first four books, don’t forget, you can get signed copies from the website, get paperbacks almost anywhere, just request them, read any of them on kindle unlimited, or buy them eBooks from Amazon.

My son’s best friend snagged one of my paperbacks I got in the mail last weekend. He said that Pack is devastating, hilarious, and the best book yet!

Now, if two days is TOO long to wait, check this book out! It’s a vampire romp! You know I’m always looking out for you, finding great books for you to read.

Cheers!

Great News!

Book 5, Pack, is coming three weeks early! I know! Right! Okay, enough of that excitement. For those of you who’ve read the first four books, in book five, it’s summer break, and Bevin and José are getting married. Jade believes her only job is to take the summer off, and help with the plans. When a job lands in her lap, her alphas reluctantly agree it’s worth pursuing.

So, Pack is coming out on April 14th. That still leaves us with a couple of weeks. What should we do in that time? No worries, I’ve collected some amazing books that you can look at. Here are six books. Four are ya, just like the Jade Stone Chronicles. Two are a bit spicier, as I don’t know if some of you like a bit of romance in what you read. One is a new series just out. And the other is in Kindle Vella. I hope you enjoy!

Clue by clue, he gets closer to unraveling the mystery, and soon realizes he must discover the truth or become the next victim himself.

Dawn of a Demon – Christine Schulz

What’s a half shifter to do when a toxic, memory-warping drug starts frying the minds of the people I love? Sharpen my cat claws and unleash my spider fangs because it’s time to hunt down my prey.

After the brain melting drug known as Bliss claims the life of my friend, the mastermind responsible for this poison sets his sights on a new target: destroying my father and sabotaging everything he’s done to help the people in the city we call home. There’s not much that ruffles my fur, but now, it’s personal. Someone is going to pay with their life for dragging my friends and family into this mess.

Except my mission will come at a hefty cost, one that will have me tangled in a web of lies and haunted by unexpected betrayal. Why has this magic really infested my home and will I be able to protect my loved ones from being attacked? One wrong move may see me squashed under the enemy’s boot.

Pixes and Ogres

I traveled to Sheboygan, Wisconsin with my friend, A.R. Grimes on Sunday for an author event. We taught a class on conceptualizing your book. But I get ahead of myself.

The two of us strapped onto our griffins for an exciting ride across our state. We carried our books, and a hope to share our love of writing, creating, and publishing.

When we landed, we realized before we stopped at the local book shop, we had to focus on our stomachs. We found a tavern, Sly’s Midtown Salooon, yes, I spelled that correctly, though your question was legit.

A bevy of pixes quickly got to our needs, flitting around, serving the trolls and gnomes demanding breakfast and ale. We were informed the owner, an ogre, was around keeping all in line. It took a bit of time for the cook to switch over from breakfast to lunch, but when the food came, it was delightful.

Michelle, our pixie server.

The Cook, and her pixie philosophy!

Once we fed the beasts that were our bellies, A.R. Grimes and I headed over to WordHaven BookHouse. The lead elf was out, under the weather, but she left a wonderful commander, able to watch the store as we held our class. We had five students in attendance as we discussed ways to plan out a book, resources, and our path to get works published.

In the end, we slid on our magical rainbows back home, excited about the new friends we had made on our adventure in our own state.

Events and News!

I am surrounded by cats! It’s true. I live with four of them, and there is always one near by. When we got the fourth cat, my son named her Jade. It wasn’t my choice, I promise you. My son thought it would be cute. Here is a picture of Jade ‘helping’ me grade quizzes.

I’ve been struggling to get the cover for Pack done, but magically, I finally got it this week. I think it’s good. It took a long time. I went back and forth with the cover artist, but in the end, phew! I’ll be showing the world the cover… soon. Here is the big question, Pack is slated to come out on May 8th, if I can get it together to release early, should I publish in April? Let me know in the comments.

If you want signed books, I offer those on my website, shipping included within the continental US.

Once again, I books lists of books that you can look into, especially in this season of spring break.

This is a LGBTQ+ SFF book fair! https://books.bookfunnel.com/lgbtqiasff/sjv9r4f96l

Spring Is In The Air!

I have gotten Pack back from the editor! Yes, you read the right. I am somewhat ahead of schedule. The cover isn’t done… but I’m working on that. If all my silly ducks keep going in the same direction, I’ll consider publishing early… Leave me a comment on if you think that’s a good idea!

I got a week by week calendar this year because I don’t know if I can keep track of all the things I’m doing. I don’t know when I got to be so busy. I don’t think I’ve missed anything huge, but part of me wonders if at one point I had a third kid and I’ve left the poor soul somewhere!

I’ve double checked and I still have all four cats, and they look well fed (as do my two kids… and according to all my pictures, that’s the correct number.)

After Pack, Battlefield is the last book of the Jade Stone Chronicles. I’m debating a Christmas story… let me know your thoughts in the comments.

The free short story I talked about a few newsletter ago, I threw up on Amazon. You can still get it from me if you’d like, just let me know. You can send me a note in the contact form or leave a comment and I’ll give you a personal code. If you have Kindle Unlimited, you can read it that way, too. I’m including the QR code here, I believe you can get the free book by giving your email again, but you won’t get two newsletters, the website is smarter than that…

While you are waiting for Pack to come out, here are some options.

LGBTQIA SF/F books: https://books.bookfunnel.com/lgbtqiasff/sjv9r4f96l

February

As a friend said, we are in a month of Mondays! Some love this month, but here in Wisconsin it is cold and snowy. It is a month to survive. I have several friends, and a mom, with a birthday this month – HAPPY BIRTHDAY ALL – but it’s still a rough twenty-eight days.

I’ve been spending the month having Pack edited. It’s scheduled to come out on May 8th. I may release it early if everything comes together. The cover is almost ready to share; expect that in the next newsletter. Then Battlefield will publish on August 17th.

There’s a question out about a series for Pebble. The jury is still out. If I decide to write that series, it won’t be in 2023.

I published a short steampunk story, The Search. Amazon put it under forty-five minute reads. I’m excited about this story, and hope you look into it.

If you’ve caught up on all of the above, then what’s left for you to discover? You know I won’t leave you without anything to read. See below for three excellent books to add to your collection! I’ve personally read Wyldling Snare and Legacy Bound and can tell you they are excellent. As for Butter, Sugar, Magic, I hear her characters almost eat as much as mine, so don’t read hungry!

Thanks for joining me once again!

Huckle

Wyldling Snare – A.R. Grimes

Welcome to Tehara: an untamed world where magic is possible, dangerous creatures roam the wilderness, and a hidden adversary schemes to overthrow the rule of the Baron-Knights.

Apprentice knight Enoch Northward returns home from a festival to find the Baron-Knight of the Northern Marches dead, the heir-apparent missing, and himself expected to rule in their stead. While he grieves the loss of his beloved guardian, Enoch is determined to prove his ability to lead despite his incomplete training. But he struggles to follow in such large footsteps. A search for missing people draws him into the forbidden Darkenwood Forest, where he discovers a path to another world… and a secret within himself that may destroy everything he loves.

Wyldling Snare—a young adult portal fantasy and the first installment of the Wyldling Dream series—is a coming of age story with underlying themes of faith, friendship, and found family.

Butter, Sugar, Magic – Jessica Rosenberg

Midlife transformation has never been more magical or delicious.

When Cassie inherits a fully stocked bakery along with a beautifully furnished apartment from a mysterious great aunt, she’s convinced she must be dreaming.

Things like this don’t happen to 40-year-old newly single moms down on their luck.

Then again, apartments don’t usually adapt themselves to your desires and friendly neighbors don’t usually tell you you’re a witch as they float fireballs in the air.

Cassie has two choices. She can hightail it out of this bewildering town and figure out another way to support her pre-teen daughter. Or she can stay in this unsettling place and embrace the unexpected.

Will she have what it takes to bake up a magical fresh start, or is this all just too far out of her comfort zone?

Butter Sugar Magic is the first book in the delicious new Baking Up a Magical Midlife Paranormal Women’s Fiction series by Jessica Rosenberg.

Legacy Bound – Elizabeth Daly

Mages bound to the Queen want free of their bindings, whilst those found unbound are put to death. Rebellion is in the air.

Isobel, an empath, hides in plain sight, dreading the day they will come for her. Older sister to William, she has spent her life protecting him while searching for a cure to the demonic corruption that will eventually consume him.

Looking for redemption, former soldier, William, has turned to the Light, renouncing his violent ways. If he doesn’t, he risks losing the battle raging inside him and fears the consequences of that happening to those he loves.

Youngest grandson of the Queen, free spirited Prince Marcus cavorts throughout the empire, determined to enjoy his remaining moments, and with one year left, his time runs short. But when he meets Isobel, Marcus discovers there is more to life than indulging every whim and fancy.

Not knowing friend from foe, and with the repercussions of their actions closing in, Isobel, Marcus and William find themselves on the run whilst trying to stop an uprising that could shatter the empire.

Can they succeed and break free of the shackles of their past, or will they be forever bound to it?

Excited!

Hi all! I’ve been working behind the scenes, trying to get things done! You can now order signed paperback books from the website! If you’re in the continental US, the price includes shipping. If not, send me a note, and we’ll figure it out. I’m thinking about getting book plates (signature stickers) to mail out so you can get your book signed from afar! With every ordered book, you’ll also get a bookmark!

Now, for the next new bit of news, I have a new short story I’m giving out to newsletter subscribers. I know, you’re already subscribed! Well, if you want the short story, let me know. There is a contact form, send me a note with the email you want me to send the short story, and I’ll get it sent to you! It’s a steam punk short that’s a fun quick read.

If you know anyone who may be interested in joining the website and getting the free short story, flash them this QR code, and they be part of our Wolf Healer family!

Just a reminder, I’m working hard to get Pack to snuff. It’s getting edited and the cover is being made. I’ll let you all see it as soon as it’s done. The book is scheduled to post in May, May 8th to be exact…Bevin’s birthday!

Hope you’re enjoying February!

Cheers!
