Surprises for YOU!! 📚🌈🎂

Hi friends! I have so many things to share with you. I was going to send my newsletter out on Saturday, but since most of the US is under a freezing cold winter advisory today (Friday), I thought I’d send this out a day early.

First of all, Aura of the Chameleon will come out in March! I know, I’m excited to. There are some options available for you. You can read the first chapter, the link is below. If you are feeling lucky, you could also just pre-order the book, I have that link available as well.

Aura of the Chameleon as eBook in tablet, kindle, and as paperback book.

How can a person hide when their magical abilities are visible to the world? Stamped on the back of their hands by the government to ensure a life of peace and happiness?

When Ivy was barely old enough to understand the greater world, her parents were eliminated. She ends up on the streets, alone, not trusting anyone. Luckily, she has a magick that allows her to blend into her surroundings. When Petra enters her life, Ivy has to decide if she can push past her wall of solitude to let someone in or if this is another person to hold at arm’s length.

Petra’s life changed abruptly when the government labeled her mother a traitor. After taking her away and reprogramming her father to love and abide the King’s every command, she knows toeing the line is her only option. After graduation, she gets a job and meets Ivy. She recognizes right away she found someone worthy of calling a friend. Now all she has to do is convince the prickly teen she’s worthy of befriending.

Can the two of them figure out how to trust each other in a world where their secrets coveted by the leaders?

Join Ivy and Petra as they learn to work together to determine who is the enemy, when running is the right move, and if trust is worth the risk. Read Aura of the Chameleon today, book one of the Hidden Magic Series.

Next piece of news. Veiled Phoenix’s cover ended up on a goodread’s list. I don’t know MUCH about goodread’s lists, but who knows. If you’d like to go and vote for my book as having a pretty cover, that would be amazing! https://www.goodreads.com/list/show/7433.Prettiest_Covers

FYI -> I know that for some of my friends that link worked, others couldn’t see the vote button. I’m not sure why. Maybe you have to be logged in? Maybe you need super special pixy powers? I’m really not entirely sure.

Last, but certainly not least, I’m going to put the first short story below. Warning, this come after all seven of the Jade Stone Chronicles. (It also come after the Pebble Stone Chronicles, but at this point, that doesn’t matter…)

Last chance to not be spoiled …

A Decade of Secrets Unraveled

Jade

“Faster! You can do it! Run!”

I beat my fist in the air, shimmying as I watched Bevin cross the finish line ahead of Owen and all the other agents. He’d been training for years, but this was his first win. His smile shone, and I knew nothing could snuff out his excitement.

Sweaty and breathing hard, he ran over to sweep me up in a hug. “I can’t believe I did it!”

On his heels, Owen, my brother, and the head of the training for this secret branch of the government that worked with werewolves, slammed into us. His vanilla scent of excitement enveloped me just as much as Bevins. “That was fantastic, boss! I knew you’d do it eventually with Jade training you.” He stepped back, an evil grin on his face. “Now all you need to do is repeat that act.” He sauntered off, laughing, as Bev’s mouth dropped open in shock.

An hour later, we pulled into Were House. We didn’t go to the SSLD – secret service lupine division, or at least that’s what we assumed it meant–often but a couple of times a month, they asked us to help out. Owen was a permanent fixture.

Inside, dinner was almost done. The scent of lasagna permeated the air, and my belly grumbled its approval. Before I could step towards the dining room, a stampede of kids descended on me and Bevin. Of the gaggle of kiddos, three were ours, the rest belonged to other pack members.

“Whoa!” I chuckled, unable to help myself as I hugged as many bodies as I could. “You’d think we’d been away for more than a day.”

Esperanza, one of the trio of demons Bevin, José, Brooke, and I called our very own, jabbed her hands onto her hips and sighed dramatically. “Mom, you worked all week, and both of you had to stay late, coming home after our bedtimes. None of us has seen you in over a week!”

Bevin pulled his look-alike daughter into a hug. She may look like him with brilliant blue eyes and light brown hair, but her attitude was all Brooke, somehow. “Very true, sweetheart. And we missed all of you terribly. Now, can we get to the table before your mom starts nibbling on all of you?”

Binium, or Bini for short, giggled and led us to our seats. With the growing size of the pack, we’d arranged the dining room to have two tables. There was a third just outside the glass doors that opened to the back patio. We often opened them wide and filled the third as well.

Owen came in after us to much less commotion. Sarah, my best friend and his wife, came from their room and gave him a hug. “The kids all tried to drown your sister and Bev when they arrived. I hid in the rooms for my own safety!”

Owen smiled wide. “That tracks.”

It didn’t take long for everyone to pile around the table. There was a kids’ table with our three, Owen and Sarah’s two, and after ten years, seven more pack kids … though the two-year-old still sat with her mom.

As we ate, we tried to monitor the kids’ conversation as much as we could. We were discussing our week, Esperanza wasn’t wrong that we hadn’t been around, and Brooke and José wanted to hear about our week, as well as we wanted to know about theirs.

From behind me, I heard the repeated argument from the kids. “But it’s not fair!” The high-pitched tone Esperanza reached tickled the back of my jaw. “Why do you get to shift into a swan and fly with Mom, and neither Bini nor I get anything?”

I sighed, debating if I needed to intervene. José rubbed my leg, telling me he thought I should let the kids handle it for now.

Calista, my doppelganger in looks and in having a shifter swan, glared at her twin. “None of us got to choose what animals we have. And according to Dad, we’re not even supposed to discuss it until we do shift.”

“So, you’re the only one who gets to know?” Esperanza just won’t let it drop.

“Only because I shifted. You’ll know when you’re older.” Calista shot back.

“Yeah, like twenty, we’re only halfway there.” She huffed, crossing her arms over her chest.

Sarah leaned in and whispered. “You know, Bevin, if you weren’t so picky about this, Jade could just tell them, like all of them.”

He rolled his eyes. “Have any of them asked her? That was the only rule I gave.”

“Annie,” Bini turned to his sister and used his nickname for her, “you, me, and Soren only have to wait until three more months for our wolves to come out.”

A stunned silence descended on the room. Though I knew Bini was an epsilon wolf, no one else did. I didn’t know he’d figured out so much.

Soren, who was used to ignoring the drama, turned to Bini. “Really? Three months?”

“Yeah, our three wolves have been playing. I think it’s because we all have two animals that our wolves will come early. I’m not really sure, though, since our second animal isn’t ready.”

Facing Bevin, he looked both pained and amused. Across from him, Sarah began to laugh.

A Wild Ride

Flying high over the overheated state of Wisconsin, my author friend, A.R. Grimes and I went on another adventure. We’ve been on a few this summer, and I’ve been remiss in telling you about them, but let me stay focused.

Last weekend, she and I uncurled the wings of my trusted phoenix, and flew to Sheboygan, Wisconsin. I know, you’ve heard tail of said destination before, a humble bookstore, WordHaven Bookhouse.

We ended up stopping at Superior Bar and Grill for Lunch, I believe my Phoenix believed it was a home away from home with the fiery exterior.

Inside, we met the crew of miniature dragons and leprechauns, who quickly fed us fried cheese and breaded meats. All rather taste, if I do say so myself. We even found the leprechauns pot of… well, not gold, but silver!

Once done, we found our way to the bookshop and set up our books. We met many a nice person, signed books, and discussed our publishing ways.

If you want a published book, they are still on sale, only from the home page, and only for a limited time. If you ask nicely in the box where you tell me who you want the book signed to, I’ll throw in A FREE CODE TO THE AUDIO BOOK!!! This is a VERY limited time offer. And it only goes out to those lovely people in my newsletter.

Wait! Did you read that right? The AUDIOBOOK is available?? It is, my friends, it is!

It went live in a location (including B&N) on August 25th. But you can get a free code from me with a purchase of a book from my website. This Labor Day offer is good until September 4th.

Exciting News!

It is July, and it is a time for so much exciting news! A new author, Christina Wallace, has her debut book, The Light Keeper, coming out May 30th, 2023. Starry Ink Press is her amazing new publisher, Starry Ink Press. Her book is a middle grade/preteen fantasy, and she’s releasing her cover today! Like, right now! Isn’t it great! You can pre-order her book in some places already as well.

You can find Christina on Instagram. The details on her book are below.

Speaking of books coming out, A.R. Grimes’s first book, Wyldling Snare comes out on September 10th. You can find information on her book below, as well as her recently released cover. Her book is a YA Christian Portal High Fantasy. I’ve read this book, and it is amazing! Five stars. You can find A.R. Grimes on Twitter, Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, and her own website. She puts out great advice on writing.

And then there is C.C. Davie. Her book, Heliacle Rising, was suppose to come out in September, but just came out this month. Unlike Christina and A.R. Grimes, C.C. Davie’s book has a bit of spice in her high fantasy book. You can find C.C. Davie on TikTok, Facebook, Goodreads, and Instagram.

Lastly, my book, Alphas, comes out on July 21st, that’s in less than a week! Gah, four books over the next year. I tell you, it is all so very very exciting!

I hope you are all as excited as me.

The Light Keeper –
Christina Wallace

Wishes aren’t all they’re cracked up to be… especially when you have to capture the Fairies who grant them to you.

Er… make that faeries… and not the normal, hiding-in-plain-sight magical kind.

When a misadventure cleaning out the attic leads Isaac to release a faerie trapped in a glass ball of light, he believes he’s struck gold–in the form of wishes. All he has to do is mention the name that was engraved on the ball, and the indebted faerie would grant him any three wishes he wanted.

The best part of all was knowing that there was an entire chest of captured faeries waiting to be freed…

But when strange things start to happen around town, Isaac begins to wonder if the increasingly unfortunate events are his doing.

Only his mysterious neighbor, Yara, knows the truth about his lineage as a Light Keeper.

Can Yara’s strength and wisdom guide Isaac into his new role?

Can Isaac make things right again?

Or will his dream-come-true turn into his worst nightmare?

Wyldling Snare –
A.R. Grimes

What if, at the tender age of sixteen, you suddenly found yourself responsible for the government of an entire realm? And what if your innate magical abilities as a wyldling surfaced at the same time? Welcome to the world of Enoch Northward, a young man whose secure and predictable life has just turned upside-down.

Enoch returns home from the Resurrection Festival to discover that his beloved guardian, the Baron-Knight of the Northern Marches, has passed away. The youth must now act as Baron-Knight under the strict tutelage of his dreaded mentor, Commander Storm. Lacking confidence in his ability to lead others, Enoch neither expected nor desired this heavy responsibility to fall upon his shoulders.

Hoping to prove himself as a leader, Enoch enters the forbidden Darkenwood Forest to search for people from his village who have gone missing. Instead, he discovers a secret Wall that connects him to Annabelle, a girl from Earth, with whom he’s been sharing dreams and seems like a sister. Grieving and desperate for a family, Enoch wants Annabelle in his life and is willing to take risks and break the rules to ensure this. However, time is running out. Enoch doesn’t realize it, but a young sorcerer’s scheme to ensnare Enoch for a dark purpose is close to fruition. Can Enoch bring Annabelle to his world, Tehara, before it’s too late?
For–all unknowing–Enoch has set into motion a shadowy adversary’s plans that will entangle the fates of three teens from very different worlds.

Heliacle Rising –
C.C. Davie

Taken in as ward of Lord Drakon after her parents’ slaughter.
Forced to navigate a new life, trying to become what is required of her
in a world so vastly different than what she had known.

Then Attica, Kingdom of the Wytchlings, moves to rise again.
Territories long alienated are forced to unite. Secrets begin to unravel.
Secrets that make her question everything.

She is Amylia Sylvers.
And she is about to show the world
that even the most unexpected …
can burn the brightest.

July has started off with a BANG!

Oh my!

What do I do now?

Alphas goes live in 21 days… 3 weeks… and the cover is up… now! What do you think? Isn’t she a beauty? You are the first to see it!

I have found marketing my book is hard… no, harder than that… a bit harder… there. Yep, really hard. I didn’t go to school for this, and to be honest, I’m making it up as I go. I joined a book promotion for this month… check it out! Right here! There are lots of book available on the site. You could even share the link with others!

In June I traveled to Florida, but didn’t have the same adventure Jade did. In July I’ll visit New Orleans… maybe a future book will have adventure taking place in the French Quarter.

Now for the big news, the winner of the free signed copy of Alphas. Drum roll please. The winner is… Samantha Day (I know she’ll be thrilled!)

I want to welcome all my new subscribers, and a warm thank you to the ones who’ve stuck by me from the beginning. With the release of Alphas later this month, half of Jade’s story will be released into the wild.

Cheers!

Alphas Cover Reveal

Hi all! Alphas comes out July 21, 2022. I am very excited to share my third book with you. It is the end of Jade’s high school years. I will be including a short story in Bevin’s point of view at the end of the story. All of the Jade Stone Chronicles are in Jade’s point of view and she doesn’t know everything. Bevin wanted all of you to know something, and asked that I include this short piece so you knew how his story played out.

On July 1st I’ll reveal the cover. That will be the deadline for joining the website to enter to win a free signed copy of alphas. If you’ve already been signed up, all you need to do is review Wolf Healer and/or Epsilon to enter one or two times to win. If you review, please drop a comment on his newsletter so I can make sure to know that you have those extra entries!

Cheers!

The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly!

The online writing and reading community is amazing. I have found, over the last few years, people who have become life long friends. I honestly can’t imagine what writers did before the invent and standardization of the interwebs.

** Not me or my actual friends

There are places online to find writing help and fun challenges, like the flash fiction I offer! Recently I joined a Summer Reading Competition hosted by a Facebook page. It focused on indie fantasy authors, and being one, I was thrilled. Talk about supporting the community.

After submitting my first review, not only to the site, but to goodreads and Amazon, I asked if I could recommend Wolf Healer to the site. I was informed that without more than werewolves, my book was considered PNR. For those of you who don’t know, that means paranormal romance.

But, I sputtered to myself, I wrote the book to be accessible to all ages…I wrote it for my kids! It isn’t romance. Frustration steaming from my ears, I calmly informed the person who told me my book was romance, that no, it wasn’t. “Too bad, so sad!” No, she didn’t say that, she sent me a link to the pages rules, which stated no shifter books allowed.

I may have mentioned before that marketing is hard! I don’t know how to convince people online to check out my books. This page seemed so perfect! More than that, until June 6th, my ebook is available for FREE! But nope, it’s a no go. My book is anathema to this page.

So, where does this leave me? I don’t know. Part of me wants to walk away from the summer reading challenge. They don’t want me, I don’t want them. I’m also very busy. But, It is early June and the reading competition goes through the end of August. I convinced three of my friends to join as well, and don’t want to walk away from them.

In the end, I was mapping out how to read a bunch of books I didn’t have time to read. This may be a blessing in wolf’s clothing. I will read books for the competition as I have time, but focus my time on the things I really need to do.

In the end, if you are a writer or reader, finding these groups can help you find people who have similar interests. You can meet great friends. And, in all honesty, I have experienced way more of the good than the bad or ugly.

Cheers!

Huckle
