Surprises for YOU!! 📚🌈🎂

Hi friends! I have so many things to share with you. I was going to send my newsletter out on Saturday, but since most of the US is under a freezing cold winter advisory today (Friday), I thought I’d send this out a day early.

First of all, Aura of the Chameleon will come out in March! I know, I’m excited to. There are some options available for you. You can read the first chapter, the link is below. If you are feeling lucky, you could also just pre-order the book, I have that link available as well.

Aura of the Chameleon as eBook in tablet, kindle, and as paperback book.

How can a person hide when their magical abilities are visible to the world? Stamped on the back of their hands by the government to ensure a life of peace and happiness?

When Ivy was barely old enough to understand the greater world, her parents were eliminated. She ends up on the streets, alone, not trusting anyone. Luckily, she has a magick that allows her to blend into her surroundings. When Petra enters her life, Ivy has to decide if she can push past her wall of solitude to let someone in or if this is another person to hold at arm’s length.

Petra’s life changed abruptly when the government labeled her mother a traitor. After taking her away and reprogramming her father to love and abide the King’s every command, she knows toeing the line is her only option. After graduation, she gets a job and meets Ivy. She recognizes right away she found someone worthy of calling a friend. Now all she has to do is convince the prickly teen she’s worthy of befriending.

Can the two of them figure out how to trust each other in a world where their secrets coveted by the leaders?

Join Ivy and Petra as they learn to work together to determine who is the enemy, when running is the right move, and if trust is worth the risk. Read Aura of the Chameleon today, book one of the Hidden Magic Series.

Next piece of news. Veiled Phoenix’s cover ended up on a goodread’s list. I don’t know MUCH about goodread’s lists, but who knows. If you’d like to go and vote for my book as having a pretty cover, that would be amazing! https://www.goodreads.com/list/show/7433.Prettiest_Covers

FYI -> I know that for some of my friends that link worked, others couldn’t see the vote button. I’m not sure why. Maybe you have to be logged in? Maybe you need super special pixy powers? I’m really not entirely sure.

Last, but certainly not least, I’m going to put the first short story below. Warning, this come after all seven of the Jade Stone Chronicles. (It also come after the Pebble Stone Chronicles, but at this point, that doesn’t matter…)

Last chance to not be spoiled …

A Decade of Secrets Unraveled

Jade

“Faster! You can do it! Run!”

I beat my fist in the air, shimmying as I watched Bevin cross the finish line ahead of Owen and all the other agents. He’d been training for years, but this was his first win. His smile shone, and I knew nothing could snuff out his excitement.

Sweaty and breathing hard, he ran over to sweep me up in a hug. “I can’t believe I did it!”

On his heels, Owen, my brother, and the head of the training for this secret branch of the government that worked with werewolves, slammed into us. His vanilla scent of excitement enveloped me just as much as Bevins. “That was fantastic, boss! I knew you’d do it eventually with Jade training you.” He stepped back, an evil grin on his face. “Now all you need to do is repeat that act.” He sauntered off, laughing, as Bev’s mouth dropped open in shock.

An hour later, we pulled into Were House. We didn’t go to the SSLD – secret service lupine division, or at least that’s what we assumed it meant–often but a couple of times a month, they asked us to help out. Owen was a permanent fixture.

Inside, dinner was almost done. The scent of lasagna permeated the air, and my belly grumbled its approval. Before I could step towards the dining room, a stampede of kids descended on me and Bevin. Of the gaggle of kiddos, three were ours, the rest belonged to other pack members.

“Whoa!” I chuckled, unable to help myself as I hugged as many bodies as I could. “You’d think we’d been away for more than a day.”

Esperanza, one of the trio of demons Bevin, José, Brooke, and I called our very own, jabbed her hands onto her hips and sighed dramatically. “Mom, you worked all week, and both of you had to stay late, coming home after our bedtimes. None of us has seen you in over a week!”

Bevin pulled his look-alike daughter into a hug. She may look like him with brilliant blue eyes and light brown hair, but her attitude was all Brooke, somehow. “Very true, sweetheart. And we missed all of you terribly. Now, can we get to the table before your mom starts nibbling on all of you?”

Binium, or Bini for short, giggled and led us to our seats. With the growing size of the pack, we’d arranged the dining room to have two tables. There was a third just outside the glass doors that opened to the back patio. We often opened them wide and filled the third as well.

Owen came in after us to much less commotion. Sarah, my best friend and his wife, came from their room and gave him a hug. “The kids all tried to drown your sister and Bev when they arrived. I hid in the rooms for my own safety!”

Owen smiled wide. “That tracks.”

It didn’t take long for everyone to pile around the table. There was a kids’ table with our three, Owen and Sarah’s two, and after ten years, seven more pack kids … though the two-year-old still sat with her mom.

As we ate, we tried to monitor the kids’ conversation as much as we could. We were discussing our week, Esperanza wasn’t wrong that we hadn’t been around, and Brooke and José wanted to hear about our week, as well as we wanted to know about theirs.

From behind me, I heard the repeated argument from the kids. “But it’s not fair!” The high-pitched tone Esperanza reached tickled the back of my jaw. “Why do you get to shift into a swan and fly with Mom, and neither Bini nor I get anything?”

I sighed, debating if I needed to intervene. José rubbed my leg, telling me he thought I should let the kids handle it for now.

Calista, my doppelganger in looks and in having a shifter swan, glared at her twin. “None of us got to choose what animals we have. And according to Dad, we’re not even supposed to discuss it until we do shift.”

“So, you’re the only one who gets to know?” Esperanza just won’t let it drop.

“Only because I shifted. You’ll know when you’re older.” Calista shot back.

“Yeah, like twenty, we’re only halfway there.” She huffed, crossing her arms over her chest.

Sarah leaned in and whispered. “You know, Bevin, if you weren’t so picky about this, Jade could just tell them, like all of them.”

He rolled his eyes. “Have any of them asked her? That was the only rule I gave.”

“Annie,” Bini turned to his sister and used his nickname for her, “you, me, and Soren only have to wait until three more months for our wolves to come out.”

A stunned silence descended on the room. Though I knew Bini was an epsilon wolf, no one else did. I didn’t know he’d figured out so much.

Soren, who was used to ignoring the drama, turned to Bini. “Really? Three months?”

“Yeah, our three wolves have been playing. I think it’s because we all have two animals that our wolves will come early. I’m not really sure, though, since our second animal isn’t ready.”

Facing Bevin, he looked both pained and amused. Across from him, Sarah began to laugh.

Another One Bites The Dust!

I’m not sure if I’m talking about November, the last book I wrote, the last book I read, or the semester I’m teaching which ends in two weeks.

We are at the start of many endings.

I recently posted this-what would you be? Does that make you happy? Which of my books would you want to end up in?

I am part of a group of authors who are doing a reader party this week. Each day, for the next 5 days, this facebook page will have authors playing games and giving away prizes. If you’re on facebook, you should come and join us!

https://www.facebook.com/groups/853369609747267/

I recently critiqued the second book in the Legacy Series by Elizabeth Daly. Her first book Legacy Bound is amazing, if you haven’t ready it, you should.

As December begins, I’ll be starting an advent calendar, 24 days of baking. Okay, I started it a couple of weeks ago because I didn’t want to bake every day. I’m not sure why I wanted to play with advent calendars this year, but I did. Anyone else?

What is your favorite bake?

Foolish week ahead!

I am so excited about this week. Well, no, I’m not, but I am! I just survived a week of spring break. Survived because lifting a box of early release copies of Xenagogue, I lost my balance and then my back hurt. Though, my back hurting isn’t really out of the ordinary.

So, if spring break was last week, why am I excited about next week? Well, there’s a birthday in the house, so I have an excuse to bake. Please don’t ask about my diet, it isn’t great. While out getting groceries today, I ran into someone with rainbow hair!!! I know, it was trippy. Now, I dyed my hair black back in January to get me to summer, so that will be a shock to some of you, but as Laura, the lovely lady with rainbow hair mentioned, I’m still full of rainbows in the inside!

  • me and Laura of the rainbow hair! She took a bookmark. She had the cutest family with her!!

What I’ve baked! The first is African Malva Pudding Cake. A family favorite. That second one is a s’mores blondie. It looks weird but it was tasty. The last picture is the mid-step in making fudge… it’s a dangerous process!

Next weekend I’ll make a sandwich cookie chocolate layered cake. Who knows what else will pop up… macaron cookies, pound cake (because we all need to put on more pounds!), and probably hot chocolate… he likes to drink it early and often!

Now, as you saw above, I have physical copies of Xenagogue. You are welcome to go ahead and order signed copies of any of my books from the website, INCLUDING Xenagogue! I know, super duper exciting. If you’d rather use paypal or venmo, just send a message and we can figure something out.

So, what’s new in the world of writing?

  • Obviously, Xenagogue is ready to be out in the world! It even has a few reviews on goodreads!
  • Veiled Phoenix will be at a sale price because of C.L. Cannon’s Fantasy & Sci-Fi Book Fair. Not only are there Free & Discounted books, there are prizes! Check it out!!
  • On April 11th, when Xenagogue releases, there will be an online release party on The Reading Lounge a facebook reader and author page. There will be a slew of authors playing games and giving away prizes. Come join in on the fun and see what you can win!
  • I’ve been going through the Yugen critiques and soon I’ll be calling for an ARC team. Pebble’s story is so fun! All of this brings me joy!

Happy almost April, my friends!

Ups and Downs

I teach math when I’m not wrangling cats, directing my family, or trying to control what my characters do on page. Though I don’t teach trigonometry, one of the first things you learn in trig, is the sine wave:

No, it's not negative cosine, I created the graph myself, I just did a screen shot from a weird place.

What does this fun little graph, which isn’t negative cosine, thank you very much, have to do with anything? Well, that’s what the temperatures around here have been like week by week. Warm one week, cold, wet and snowy the next. Since I work a battery heated coat this week, I’m looking forward to all my students wearing shorts next week!

This semester, wanting to get a class I teach to have a better pass rate, I’ve implemented a few new policies. One of them is points for coming to class every day. Now, I know we’re in the midst of a lot of different illnesses, and teaching at a university, when one student is sick, they’re all sick. I do have ways students can earn points back if they miss.

They continued like this. Nothing explaining her reason for missing class, just her obvious absence and this type of message. Ironically, the other thing I added to class was a warm-up that focused everyone for the weekly quizzes.

I’ll be honest, both these changes do seem to be helping.

Anyway, I did email the student explaining that the playlists, copies of the lessons with links to my youtube videos that mimic what I do in class, were for the few times students missed, not to replace class. She replied she had no idea that had been my plan.

Though I am skeptical, I still await her return to class.

And wait…

And wait…

As I wait, I write!

My new book is just over 30k. I would love to say that is the halfway point. I may be beyond the halfway point. I may post bits of chapter one to my facebook author page. Also, until pi-day, March 14th, if you join that page, or get a friend to join and name you as their inspiration on a post, you or they could win all three of the Ember Savita eBooks or audiobooks free! If you want to check it out, here is a link to the post!

The ARCs for Xenagogue have gone out, and three people have left reviews on goodreads. Though I’d LOVE to say everyone has given the book 5-star reviews, I know that isn’t ever going to happen. Despite two 4-star reviews, I’m not unhappy with them. 🥰

Xenagogue comes out on April 11th, pre-orders for the eBooks are up now.

If you’re looking for other books, don’t forget iheartsapphic always has deals available, as well as weekly giveaways and challenges. Check out their website and reader page on facebook. You could always nominate any of my books as your favorite for the year! I would not be completely unhappy with that. 😱🤣🤣🤣

If you’re worried about all the talk on boycotting Amazon, I’m with you. However, KU supports authors more than Amazon. And, honestly, there isn’t many other places for indie authors to sell out books. You can wait a week to pre-order or read my books, but for many authors, not buying books on amazon means they won’t be able to make ends meet.

That’s just my two-cents, for all it’s worth…

Happy March, y’all!

Huckle

Xenagogue – and more!

Well, we did it, it’s March! As the date says in a few days, March forth and buy books!

At the university where I work, students are, mostly, in the swing of things. Exams, homework, excuses, the works. I have my pattern of getting things done as well. I’m trying to stay on top of my work so I can write my new series. No one said any of this was easy, but it is fun!

Anyway, I sent the ARCs out for Xenagogue. If you signed up, please check your email. It will have come from bookfunnel, not me. That’s the site I can send eBooks out from. So far, the few people who’ve read it have given the story good reviews!

Xenagogue - book Book 1 of Pebble Stone Chronicles

Speaking of Veiled Phoenix, I’m pretty sure Battle Phoenix will be out in audio hopefully this week!

Let me know if you want me to email out the first chapter of the new book. It won’t be edited, but it could be fun!

Fire and Phoenixes!

Happy June!

Well, it finally happened. Veiled Phoenix is alive and well and out in the world. For those of you who read books on Kindle Unlimited, go, read, and enjoy. If you’re more interested in eBook or Paperback, those are available as well.

Moonstone Phoenix, the second book is slated to come out on November 22nd. If I can get all my raving racoons to agree, I may get the book out sooner. At the moment, that actually looks good. I have one and a quarter edits left. Beyond that, the cover is done and I do my own formatting.

I’ve been spending the last month and a half critiquing SO many books. It’s been nice getting back to reading. I’m also almost done writing and cleaning up the Pebble trilogy. Then I’ll throw the series to the critique/edit group. We should see Pebble out in 2025 … at the latest. (I may write faster than my elves can work…)

We are halfway through pride month, hope you’re enjoying it!

Thunderbolts and Lightening!

If you live anywhere in or around Wisconsin, you know the weather is … exciting. It’s Saturday right now, and ironically, the weather is nice.

But, yesterday and tomorrow are thunderstorms. Earlier this week we had a day with four (five?) tornado sirens!! Below is an image of the storm Tuesday night. Friends lost power for days. We lucked out.

Long story short … I got a lot of reading done, and the BOOK FAIR is postponed until June 2nd. Good news, I will definitely have copies of Veiled Phoenix, officially out June 14th, pre-order the eBook today!, to sell!!! Bad news, you have to wait a week to buy them.

I still hope to see you there! https://www.facebook.com/events/374391782017381

In the meantime, I’m almost done cleaning up Battle Phoenix, then I’m back to the Pebble books!

A Wild Ride

Flying high over the overheated state of Wisconsin, my author friend, A.R. Grimes and I went on another adventure. We’ve been on a few this summer, and I’ve been remiss in telling you about them, but let me stay focused.

Last weekend, she and I uncurled the wings of my trusted phoenix, and flew to Sheboygan, Wisconsin. I know, you’ve heard tail of said destination before, a humble bookstore, WordHaven Bookhouse.

We ended up stopping at Superior Bar and Grill for Lunch, I believe my Phoenix believed it was a home away from home with the fiery exterior.

Inside, we met the crew of miniature dragons and leprechauns, who quickly fed us fried cheese and breaded meats. All rather taste, if I do say so myself. We even found the leprechauns pot of… well, not gold, but silver!

Once done, we found our way to the bookshop and set up our books. We met many a nice person, signed books, and discussed our publishing ways.

If you want a published book, they are still on sale, only from the home page, and only for a limited time. If you ask nicely in the box where you tell me who you want the book signed to, I’ll throw in A FREE CODE TO THE AUDIO BOOK!!! This is a VERY limited time offer. And it only goes out to those lovely people in my newsletter.

Wait! Did you read that right? The AUDIOBOOK is available?? It is, my friends, it is!

It went live in a location (including B&N) on August 25th. But you can get a free code from me with a purchase of a book from my website. This Labor Day offer is good until September 4th.

It’s a Battle!

It’s finally July! I spent two weeks traveling from Paris to London, then over to Edinburgh and ending in Dublin, Ireland. The trip was amazing!

Battlefield, the last book in the Jade Stone Chronicle’s comes on out the 21st! Are you as excited as I am? You can pre-order eBooks today and make sure you get that last book right away.

It’s Jade and Bevin’s senior year. The Dynasty wolves don’t want their pack anywhere near them. The battle is on. Can Jade make friends when every friend she makes could be marked by the other wolves as a target in their war?

I have copies of the book! If you want to purchase a book early and live in the continental US, jump on over to the page of my website and order one up. You’ll get a signed copy before the book is officially out!

If you want to wait for the eBook and have already pre-ordered, consider one of these books, already available!

Thanks for reading!
