It’s a fair!

Hi all!

The transition from teaching to only focusing on writing is always odd. I keep thinking I’m forgetting something. I’ve spent most of the last week beta reading two books, both excellent. I love that part of writing, getting in and seeing the process before publishing, knowing that my thoughts and opinions will help make someone else’s project better.

Though Veiled Phoenix comes out on June 14th (!!!), I’ve already done a reread of Moonstone Phoenix. Last night I began my read through of Battle Phoenix, the end of the trilogy. My first beta reader suggested I add a chapter to the end of the book, so this read through is slow and critical. I’m trying to really get in and make it better.

Don’t forget, you can pre-order any of the Ember Savita Trilogy, today! Though Veiled Phoenix comes out June 14th, you can order the first book from me early. I don’t have that page up on my website yet, but you can order one book on the Jade page and put Veiled Phoenix in the notes. Be the first to read the book!!

As a reminder, all of Jade Stone Chronicles is available on eBook, Paperback, Kindle Unlimited, and audiobook!

On Sunday, I’ll be at a book fair in Kenosha, Wisconsin. There will be lots of venders there selling books and other fun items. There will be a food truck!!! I know, I get excited by almost anything. Here’s a facebook link about the event.

https://www.facebook.com/events/374391782017381

As soon as I’m done with my beta reads and Battle Phoenix, I’ll be back to the Pebble series. I believe the first book is at a good point, but books two and three need work. So, I have a lot of work to do!

I hope all of you are as excited as me.

Summer Dreaming

May is such a strange time. There are a large number of us still chugging away: work, school, homework, deadlines, and all of it. That said, for some people, finals have come and gone, school’s out, and it’s time to look towards the next chapter of 2024.

I hope no matter what you’re doing, you are finding ways to relax and have some fun.

There are a few things I’d like to discuss. First of all, I have several meet and greets around Wisconsin this summer. Some coming up soon.

Friday, May 17th, I’ll be at Studio Moonfall in Kenosha, Wisconsin from 4 – 7pm. Here is the facebook event.

Saturday, May 18th, I’ll be at Dragon Tale Books in Menomonie, Wisconsin with A.R. Grimes from 1 – 4pm. Meet the Authors-Huckleberry Rahr and Angela Grimes

Sunday, May 26th, I’ll be back at Studio Moonfall for an outdoor book event with lots of authors and other venders.

Besides planning meet and greets, I have been trying to read, write, and well, do some arithmetic. That last is mostly over now, since I am one who finished final last week. I’ve been reading through the edits of Veiled Phoenix, the first of the Ember Savita trilogy. I do believe it will be a trilogy. Once I got done finalizing that book, I read through book two, Moonstone Phoenix. I’ll probably read Battle Phoenix next.

Veiled Phoenix will be live on June 14th!!! If you were wondering.

I have two amazing critique readers who read my books and ask those probing questions that lead to me adding or subtracting words, depending on what they’ve asked. I am supremely thankful for both of them. I was going through Angela’s comments on book two and will be going through Elizabeth’s comments on book 3. Usually Elizabeth is the first to get her hands on my books.

Once I’m done reading through Ember’s books, I’ll go back to Pebble’s series. I need to do much more with her trilogy. I think the first book is probably fine, but books two and three need … more.

As well as writing the books, I’ve been getting the covers made, which is always a fun process. They are slowly getting done.

You can get more info on all of the books on their individual pages on my website.

Anyway, hope you’re May is going well!

And The Winner Is…

Not me.

Wolf Healer is a finalist in two categories for the 2024 American Legacy Awards! I didn’t win, but I get place for LGBTQ+ Fiction and Urban Fiction. I’m still pretty excited.

Since 2024 began, I’ve written a first draft of all three books in the trilogy that will one day be the Pebble Stone Chronicles. In the next day or two I’ll even contract for the covers! It’s all so real. I need to read through the books before I have anyone else read them, the books are short and need … well, probably a lot, but at least some TLC. (That’s tender loving care, not a channel on the tele… )

Last year I wrote a phoenix series. The first book, Veiled Phoenix, has finally been edited. For awhile it felt like the book that would never BE edited. I’ve not only gone through the edits, which means I can start formatting the book, I’ve set dates for publishing all three books of the trilogy, and set up pages on amazon. That’s right, it’s all really happening. You can check out the pages on my website or on Amazon if you want to pre-order any of them.

Here is a link for Amazon. <CLICK ME!!>

So, Veiled Phoenix will come out on June 14th. Check out this cover!

Isn’t it great?! Let me know what you think.

In Like a Lion

We’ve made it to the end of March. This hasn’t been the best month for me in sales, but it’s been amazing in terms of audiobooks… guess what?! They’re ALL OUT!!!

If you want more regular interactions with me. I have an author page on facebook that I’ve been very active in. Please join me and others. It’s been lots of fun interacting an joking around.

I write a lot of books. I have a couple of pen names where I write contemporary and paranormal romance. Because of this, my editor has a hard time keeping up with the backlog of books I have. So, Veiled Phoenix, the first of the phoenix shifter books, has been patiently waiting for the love of more than critique readers.

In the last few weeks, I have found a new editor and signed a contract. She will start editing in the next week or so. By the end of April, she’ll be done! Then the ARCs can go out. I have about six or seven people signed up to get the book early. If you are curious, here is my page on the book so you can read what it’s about: https://huckleberryauthor.com/ember-savita-chronicles-book-1/

If you want to sign up to be part of the ARC, here is the sign up: https://forms.gle/ULf31wBhhB3vavfn7

I am currently writing the third of the Pebble books. I have planned on there only being three books in her series: Xenagogue, Yugen, and Zephyr. The blurbs haven’t been added to the website yet, but they’re coming soon, I promise!

Happy sugar weekend!

It’s Always a Battle!

Do you want an early copy of Battlefield?

When Alphas came out I tried to find ARC readers – advance readers for the book. I didn’t find many people who wanted to jump in a book three of a series. Well, now book six is coming out, and where I’ve gotten several ratings for book five, I’ve only received two reviews. So, I decided to put out a call for ARC readers for Battlefield.

If you’d like to be part of my ARC team, fill in the form in the link below. You’ll get the book this week.

Thanks for reading, and have a great June!

Chaos and Other Fun

April has been exciting! I’ve been doing a lot of writing. I traveled to a bookstore, and, hmm, what else, ah, Pack came out! I want to thank you all for all your support. Pack has been in the top 100 for Teen and Young Adult LGBTQ+ Fiction on Amazon since it came out on April 14th.

There are some big name book in that category, so bopping around the top 100 is fantastic! I’ve even, as of this post, picked up 14 ratings and 1 review. If you’ve read the book and would be willing to give it a review, that would warm my heart! Help convince me to try to get Battlefield out sooner than August 17th.

Last month, Battlefield was submitted to my critique group. They gave me some great ideas to make the book better. I’ll be reading through the book and making changes next week and hopefully getting the manuscript to my editor the following week.

My cats seem to enjoy my sitting on the computer getting these books written and cleaned up.

I’ve joined a website that is doing a HUGE giveaway.

Jae – a big author in the industry, has gathered 36 authors who are part of this giveaway. That is a LOT of opportunity to win. Just click here, and you enter to win!

If you’re all caught up with the Jade Stone Chronicles, why not check out one of these fantastic reads?

Once a high achieving student, Win’s illness forces her to become withdrawn, losing many friends along the way. When doctors can’t find a cure, her father’s last hope of recovery is to take her home to Hickory House, her mother’s ancestral home in the woods in the old colonial town of Cedar Wood. A fresh start in a new town, a new school where no one knows her past, plus a cute neighbor across the woods…life should get better, right? Living with her Grandpa and older sister in a quaint town should be ideal, but Win soon discovers she lives at the heart of an old town ghost story, a tale of witchcraft and tragedy. And Win learns that her family is unusual, and have some rather interesting secrets.
Someone is watching the house, a mysterious hunter, someone who knows her family’s dark secrets, and as Win starts to change in more ways than one, she must uncover the truth about this man, and what he wants from her. She is getting stronger and faster as she learns more about her family’s strange curse. All Win wants to do is settle into her new life, but on the night of Luke Fraser’s bonfire, the party quickly gets out of control, and Win must use her new talents to help her friends and get them to safety. She must unearth the secrets of her past to survive the fight of her life before she runs out of time.

Wolf Summoned – Michelle Areaux

It only took one moment to change my life forever.

After being shipped off to spend my entire summer with my great aunt, I am finally returning to my home in small-town, Nicholasville. I’ve missed my best friend, Maddox, like crazy and have dreamed of having my normal life back. Only, my return wasn’t as welcome as I had expected—or normal.

Fate seems to have a strange sense of humor. Not only am I dealing with becoming a shifter, but ow, a beautiful, dark-haired boy with almost supernatural-like qualities is drawing me in against my own will and causing me to question everything I’ve ever known.

Cole.

No matter how hard we try to fight it, there is this uncanny connection between us. I fear he may learn my secret that not only am I a shifter, but that I’m caught in the middle of an ages-old war between shifters and hunters.
Someone wants me dead, and the closer I get to saving my own kind, the more destruction seems to spark around me. Maddox senses it, too, and wants me to chose between Cole and my loyalty with my pack.

How can I be forced to choose between my best friend and boyfriend? How can I solve the destruction of shifters?

Wyldling Snare – A.R. Grimes

He’s determined to reconcile his duty with his dreams. But will a secret destiny ensnare him first?

Apprentice knight Enoch Northward isn’t ready to lead. But when he returns home to find his mentor dead and the heir-apparent missing, he knows he must rise to the challenge.

But the horrifying truth of his guardian’s death and disappearance of his friends leaves the grieving knight with no time to mourn. In search of answers, he ventures into the forbidden forest. There he discovers a portal leading to another world – and a girl who shares his faith and dreams.

The realm hangs in the balance as a mysterious enemy schemes to destroy it, but not all peril comes from the outside. Enoch himself harbors a secret that could destroy all he loves…

If you enjoy portal fantasy and adventure, then you’ll love Wyldling Snare, the first installment of the Wyldling Dream series – a coming of age story with underlying themes of faith, friendship, and found family.

On A Wing

It takes a dragon to find a dragon. Fellow author, A.R. Grimes and I, climbed onto the back of our trusted green dragon and flew far east and north in Menomonie, Wisconsin to visit Dragon Tale Book, a new bookstore near UW-Stout.

On the way up, hunger overtook us, and we stopped at a Monday’s Café and Deli where waitress Kamryn assured our trip was fun, beautiful, as well as delicious!

Kamryn

Chief Dragon-rider Ann Vogl met us as the bookstore and showed us around a main room with a large dragon tail overseeing the books. The store is welcoming. It had a steady stream of people coming in, including several regulars. The store has more than books, it displays local art, hosts book clubs, as well as other events. It’s a gem that I heard at least one family said was a reason they’d select UW-Stout as their college of choice!

After setting up, A.R. Grimes and I even found a few hidden notes around the bookstore, a scavenger hunt they’ve provided for even more fun!

This bookstore is absolutely a place you should visit!!

In personal news, Pack topped the Amazon Teen & Young Adult LGBTQ+ Fiction New Release for three days. I was over the moon. It’s still in the top three five days later! I thank you all for making my book so successful!

There are, as of writing the newsletter, nine ratings. I’m so excited to see the first few reviews come in! I’m wondering what y’all have to say about my book!

I’m working on Book 6, Battlefield. It’s scheduled to come out in August, but if I can, I will get it out early. I just got the cover in, and I’ll show you now what the artists created. It’s fantastic!

If you’ve read books 1 – 5, and need a recommendation, I have a few (as always). Here you go!

Here is a list of free books, if you’ll sign up for a newsletter: https://books.bookfunnel.com/fantasyheroines/7uc35okd31

Here is a list of paranormal romances. I don’t have a book in this list, but if you want to branch out, here you go! https://books.bookfunnel.com/pnrandfantasyinku/peldbmtgtp

Countdown!

Hi everyone! Pack comes out in two days. Are you as excited as I am? I hope you are. If you haven’t caught up with the first four books, don’t forget, you can get signed copies from the website, get paperbacks almost anywhere, just request them, read any of them on kindle unlimited, or buy them eBooks from Amazon.

My son’s best friend snagged one of my paperbacks I got in the mail last weekend. He said that Pack is devastating, hilarious, and the best book yet!

Now, if two days is TOO long to wait, check this book out! It’s a vampire romp! You know I’m always looking out for you, finding great books for you to read.

Cheers!

Marketing Madness!

I recently had a friend over and we went mad for marketing! We created calendars and timelines… it was insanity! I even created a TikTok on my particular brand of marketing… (echo… echo…) You can find it here!

The moral is, you need to start getting your content out early and often, and focus on what works for you.

So my friend, A. R. Grimes, is publishing her first book on September 10th and I couldn’t be more excited for her. She has helped and supported me from the beginning, more than any other person… or cat. You can go and check out her website here and see what she’s up to.

Over the next few months she’ll be telling her story of going from amazing writer to spectacular author. You could even hire her to be your ghost writer! You can follow her on her website, Instagram, or TikTok.

Cheers!

And the Winner Is…

Well, no one yet, it isn’t May 26th!

This is my reminder of the flash fiction available to everyone on my website. The image is below and your submission can be submitted to the comments here.

So far I’ve received two submission, both 500 words or less, so you don’t have to stress about length, this is really just for fun!

As a reminder, this is free, if you were worried. A way for us all to connect and get a few words written about something different and new.

Happy writing!
